Hi, I'm Krista (she/her)
Owner & Director of Tough Stuff Counselling
Registered Psychotherapist MACP, BA, BFA
My goal is to create a compassionate, non-judgmental, and safe environment where you can express yourself, share your story, and learn to use your inherent strengths and skills to make changes in your life.
I value collaboration and believe in developing a strong therapeutic relationship where we work together to create a plan using evidence-based practices and incorporating your specific goals, cultural traditions, spiritual beliefs, life experiences, and strengths.
My approach to psychotherapy is trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, feminist, 2SLGBTQ*-affirmative, and sex-positive. I take an eclectic approach to therapy which is narrative-based, client-centred, using empathy, self-compassion, and humour.

I trained as an artist and received a Bachelor of Fine Art from NSCAD University in Halifax. I have also pursued training in psychology and gender studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Saint Vincent University. I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. As a researcher, I have worked in many psychological research areas, including positive psychology and neuropsychology. I have also spent the past four years working within a research team focused on Indigenous mental health, resiliency, and the intergenerational effects of trauma. I believe my diverse educational and research experiences help to inform my holistic therapeutic approach to mental health and wellbeing.

I understand finding a therapist you fit well with can take some exploring. I am more than happy to connect with you and answer any questions you might have or schedule a free 15-minute consultation to discuss what it might be like to work together.
